Joseph’s Final Gift
Joseph Jacome III died unexpectedly this week at age 31, leaving his family in a financial crisis that no young family should have to face.
Joseph was kind and gentle and warm, quick to greet with the warmest of smiles and a wraparound hug. When he became a father seven years ago, there was no doubt about the kind of dad he would be — hands-on, playful, and generous with love, praise, and guidance. What no one could have known then was how little time he would have with his kids.
Kayden, who loves Harry Potter, riding his bike, and being out in nature, had only seven birthdays with his Dad. He looks just like him, though, and will see his father looking back at him from the mirror his whole life.
Devin just turned 15 in September. Although he is not Joseph’s son by blood, he is by bond. The two formed a strong friendship, cut short by this unimaginable loss, and Devin will have memories of their shared interest in politics and Star Wars.
Sweet Joselyn is barely one. Her father’s memory will quickly fade. Her brothers, her Mom, her grandparents and aunts and uncles will bring him to life for her, telling stories and making sure she knows who he was.
Like generations before him, Joseph worked hard and didn’t have nearly as much time to spend with his kids as he wanted. But there were bills to pay, and mouths to feed, and Joseph understood what responsibility meant.
And now that Joseph is gone, it’s time for the community to step up with love to bridge the gap the Jacomes never expected to have to cross.
That’s where we come in, with the generosity of the season and the gifts we’ve been given. Whether it’s $5 or $500, I hope you’ll find room in your heart for this family, which has been broken apart so unexpectedly. Their need is great and urgent, and it’s very likely that one of them has been there for you in your time of need. Please help Joseph make one final gift to his family by giving from your heart.
Thank you.
Beth Vorro, on behalf of Devin, Kayden, and Joselyn
