Anders and Judy Guy had their hands full raising four children, Asha (12), Zana (9), Ulla (5), and Virgil (11mo) and were struggling to make ends meet, but Anders faithfully made time to take the family on outings together and the kids knew they were loved. On the day Judy planned to take Virgil to get his first haircut she tragically got word that Anders suffered heart failure while commuting to work on the metro bus and passed away. This is a devastating blow for Judy and the kids as they mourn the sudden and unexpected loss of their loving husband and father. In the midst of her grief, Judy is now faced with how to raise four kids on her own and take over making sure they are financially provided for since Anders was the sole source of income for their family.
If you met Anders you would know that besides his family he was passionate about hockey. The Vancouver Canucks have lost a loyal fan and for those of us that went to Seattle Thunderbirds games with him his presence there will be sorely missed. Anders was a consistent fundraiser for the Mary Bridge Children’s Courage cycling event every August and raised thousands of dollars for the program which he said he had participated in every year since it began in 1991. When the pandemic hit he volunteered to help his church run live streaming Sunday mornings. He was also proud of his Swedish heritage and talked often about wanting to go visit his family that live there. He worked on teaching his kids to speak Swedish and would often wear his yellow Tre Kronor (“Three Crowns”) hockey jersey in support of Sweden’s national hockey team.
Anders’ untimely passing comes on the heels of needing to get their only vehicle repaired after it was hit by another car earlier this month. Ulla has a perpetual smile on her face despite being a miracle child with a heart that is only partially developed and she is coming up on another major heart surgery in the near future. In addition, Judy will now need to navigate raising children in their teenage years on her own as Asha turns 13 next week. As you can imagine, this is all rather overwhelming for Judy. Thankfully she has her family, friends, and church coming to her side to help her get through this difficult time.
We graciously ask you to support Judy and her kids with your prayers and, if possible, with financial support. We are hoping to raise enough funds for her and the kids to cover funeral expenses, keep food on the table, cover their current bills until benefits start coming in, and paying down debt incurred when Anders was out of work for over a year. Any extra funds would help them make some overdue renovations to their condominium and replace some worn-out furniture.
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, and loving support during this difficult time!
