Hi my name is Rachel and I am fundraising to help the families affected by the recent fire at Aquila Drive, Sherford.
Twenty eight people were rescued by fire crews from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service while a further two evacuated themselves after a severe fire broke out in the early hours of the morning of Friday 18th September 2025. The fire was confined to the stairwell but other parts of the building suffered significant smoke damage. The cause of the fire is being investigated.
All those rescued were assessed by ambulance crews for the effects of smoke inhalation and all are now in temporary accommodation. Without access to their homes, these families urgently need everyday essentials including clothing and school uniforms. All monies raised will be split equally between the 12 households and will provide emergency support until they are able to return home. Once returned to their properties, any additional monies will be to replace damaged items and help the families affected to get back on their feet. Thank you so much for your support.
Funds raised will be shared equally via bank transfer to each individual family and will mainly be spent on food, drink, clothing and essential items for work or school. I am the project manager for Feeding Devon and was asked by the families to set up the fundraiser as I am not related to them but have been supporting them.
