Hello Friends!
My name is Luisa M. Gonzalez and I want to make a short film!
I came to Toronto a year ago, and I’m determined to complete this story that’s why I’m reaching for your help.
The Fake plant is a unique world. One that belongs to the present day, but not entirely. In it, we have our main character, Annie, a sweet and childish 28-year-old woman, who’s engaged to John, an honorable but dominant man. One morning after John leaves the apartment Annie has to face her biggest challenge to date. Survive hunger, cold, and most of all, her fear of raccoons while trapped on the balcony of her house. Annie finds a friend in a fake plant that gives her the confidence to trust herself and the power she carries within.
In so many ways I’m Annie. I've been in situations where finding my way out felt like a task too overwhelming for me to take. I struggled and still do with finding the self-confidence to trust in me and what I’m able to do. And just like her, I find comfort in small things (The 50's, movies, plants, and unhealthy obsessions with franchises) I realize that creating a new persona that’s proud and strong it’s also my way of coping with real life. A separate entity that might not be a fake plant, but works in the same way.
This is as personal as it gets, because you will not only find my deepest fears in this short film but also all the elements that help me become the person who’s pitching in front of you today.
I love the weird, the uniqueness of a world that is not afraid to be silly, different, unexpected, and real.
