Who Are We
Hi my name is Pete I am the founder of The Ethical Explorer Project and we are on a mission to discover, support, and share truly ethical wildlife experiences around the world.
for as long as I can remember I have wanted to dedicate my life to the protection of animals of every kind. As a kid I spent all my time in nature and around animals, and as an adult I studied a degree in wildlife conservation spending my spare time and holidays working and volunteering at wildlife organisations.
my time volunteering is what first inspired me to start The Ethical Explorer Project, although it would be many years before I got to the point where I am now. After more than a decade of working for wildlife organisations and seeing the good and the bad I am finally ready to set out on my own journey.
Why This Matters
Millions of traveler’s visit wildlife tourism attractions with good intentions, but too often, they unknowingly support organisations that exploit or harm animals.
Whether it is elephants being made to do tricks and endure countless hours of elephant rides.
Tigers that are sedated and forced to interact with tourists.
Or stray dogs being euthanised after being used in promotional material to gain donations.
The wildlife tourism industry has been infiltrated by those who only care about making a profit and will use and exploit the animals in their care to do so.
The Ethical Explorer Project is on a mission to change that.
What Is The Ethical Explorer Project?
I'm setting off on a nonprofit journey to investigate wildlife tourism across Southeast Asia. From elephant sanctuaries to sea turtle hatcheries and wildlife rescue centres, I’ll be:
- Volunteering at each organisation
- Investigating organisations
- Assessing their ethics using a standardised formula
- Creating honest reviews, blogs, photos, and video stories
- Spotlighting the sanctuaries and charities doing it right
- Helping raise money and awareness for the ethical organisations
Everything will be published publicly, for free to help people travel with purpose and protect the animals we all love.

- Visit and assess 10+ wildlife tourism destinations in the first year
- Launch a public website with reviews, vlogs, and ethical travel resources
- Build a platform that helps traveler’s support genuinely ethical animal experiences

- Spotlight charities and sanctuaries doing incredible work and help them get more donations
