Please join me in making a difference for the planet and for us.
My name is Max Fawcett and I’m 14 years old. I will be going on a trip in July 2020 to Costa Rica, with several other students from my school (Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle), which is being organised by the charity Global Action.
I am very excited about this trip. It will be my first ever trip outside Europe, but I am mostly super excited about it because I am very passionate about the environment and am eager to learn more about sustainability and ecotourism as well as to discover how Costa Rica deals with it's own environmental issues.
All of the students going on this trip have been set the challenge of raising the money needed themselves. While some of this money will need to go towards flights, food and accommodation, the rest will be donated to three Costa Rican charities: CREMA (a marine conservation and research organisation), Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve (MCFBR) and Tropical Science Centre (TSC). I am very excited to support these charities and to learn more about how Costa Rica protects its environment. As well as learning about conservation, sustainable development, tropical forests and ecotourism, we will also be supporting a turtle conservation project and sustainable tourism initiatives across the country.
In order to raise the money, once I have met my target, I am challenging myself to walk a total of 100 kilometres (62miles) in the space of only 6 days. I will be documenting the experience by taking pictures, videos and time lapses as I achieve my goal.
