The house I have lived in for 23 years is being sold. It is the only home my daughter has ever known. Although I have been taking care of it for the past 5 years since my marriage ended, it is being sold from under me. I cannot fault my former in-laws as they are being offered a very generous price. However, I was once told, "As long as you and Veronica need a home, it will be there." I have been saving for months since it was made known to me that a sale would most likely happen mid-2026. Now, it’s looking like the end of the year, if not sooner. Once the contract is signed, I will have 60 days to vacate.

Thankfully, my daughter has the ability to go live with her father. I do have two places I can bounce between, but it still comes at a cost.

The things I can’t take with me and cannot throw out will need to be in storage, and that is an expense. I need to move things. That is another expense.

Ideally, I would hope to raise enough to find a little place for Veronica and myself. She is an adult and working and is more than willing to contribute, but the time crunch is working against us as the housing market is very tight right now. Anything raised would give us a cushion to be able to start over.

For the past 5 years, it’s been the two of us. Knowing I will not see her face every day is tearing me apart from the inside out. I am also having to leave my pets as well. Everything I know is about to change, and I’m fighting like hell to adapt and do what I need to do.
