Born in love. Carried by light. Guided by the memories of our loved ones.

This foundation was born from stories of those who left us too soon yet continue to illuminate our lives. Each cherished memory — of tiny Aurora, Luke’s brief but brilliant presence, a life reborn through a transplant, Allan’s irrepressible spirit, and Damian’s vibrant yet challenging journey — informs our commitment to support others through loss, illness, and hardship.

Our Pillars of Remembrance

Aurora Elizabeth

Aurora was born at just 24 weeks. Though her time with us was short, her strength and sweetness live on as a symbol of transformation and hope. Represented by a blue butterfly, she reminds us that even the most fleeting moments can leave a lasting impact.

⭐ Luke John Gill

Luke shone as a tiny star from August 24th to August 27th, 2007. In just over two days, he taught us about the beauty and depth of even the briefest lives. His memory, captured in a tender tribute video and cherished by his family, remains a guiding light.

A Story of Second Chances

In July 2022, one of our co-founders received life-altering news: his liver was failing due to two undiagnosed hereditary conditions—Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency and Hereditary Hemochromatosis. Despite the assumption that alcohol was to blame in the past, these hidden conditions were the true culprits.

On August 17, 2022, he received a life-saving liver transplant—a gift he lovingly named Linus. Committed to honoring that second chance, he embraced sobriety (a practice he has upheld since July 12, 2022) and now raises awareness through endurance events like the Philly Bike Ride and Ride Essex. His journey is one of gratitude, resilience, and the power to transform adversity into advocacy.

Allan Dade (“Don Ruggio”)

Allan was the man with the unmistakable mane and a heart of gold. Losing his battle with brain cancer on July 23, 2018, he left a legacy of laughter and kindness that still echoes through every shared memory. Known affectionately as Don Ruggio — and fondly remembered through the phrase WWADD (“What Would Allan Dade Do”) — he was a friend who made time for everyone, lighting up the room with his infectious spirit.

Damian Pelsma (“Damo Mayo”)

Damian, born on June 30, 1978, was a vibrant soul whose life, though tragically short, was filled with profound moments of joy and heartache. A passionate Eurovision fan with a keen sense for celebration (and deep remembrance), he embraced life in all its contradictions.

Engaged to Andrew in April 2017, Damian’s bright spirit was challenged by the struggles he faced for being true to himself. His passing on September 14, 2017, left a void that still inspires advocacy for mental health, suicide prevention, and LGBTQ+ support.

“My Darling Damo Mayo, you left us 3 years ago but it still feels like yesterday. I wish there had been so many more adventures. Until we meet again.”
