The Eddie Chambers Memorial Fund

Donation protected
My name is Beverly Jenkins, and I am a close friend of the Laizure/Chambers family. In their time of need, I am writing to you to ask for your help.

Last Friday, October 14, 2016, Eddie Chambers made a tragic and impulsive mistake that ended his life. He was just 15. He was rushed to the local hospital and later transferred to Boston Children's Hospital. While there, he clung to life long enough for his immediate family to say goodbye. Eddie's family made the heartrending but courageous decision to donate Eddie's organs, so that a part of him will live on. Eddie would have wanted his body to help others; that's just the kind of person he was.

Eddie was a unique and funny boy with a wicked sense of humor and an independent spirit. He was smart and athletic, naturally cool without even trying, and his classmates and teachers adored him. He could keep company with adults and kids of all ages, easily making conversation and lending a hand when needed. It was easy to love Eddie; he was friendly to all and always had a big smile and a polite word to offer.

His death leaves a painful wound that will never fully heal in the hearts and lives of his family.

Many members of our community have asked how they can help the family.

What Can You Do?

In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider making a donation to help Eddie's family with the unexpected medical and funeral costs associated with his death. The cost of ambulances and EMT services, days spent in the ICU, MRIs and other medical exams is staggering. They will also have to pay for a memorial service and funeral expenses, all of which are extremely costly. Anyone who has ever had a hospital stay will tell you that the bills are going to start coming in soon, and they won't stop for a long, long time.

This is not an expense that anyone ever saves for; these costs are a shocking and horrible punch to the gut when they're already living every parent's worst nightmare.

We can't take the pain away, but maybe we can take away some of the worry.

A tragedy like this can bankrupt a family, but we, their family, friends, and community, cannot let that happen.

The family has never been one to ask for charity, but this is their time of need and I know many of their loved ones are looking for a way to help in some small way.

Every little bit helps.

Thank you for reading this, and thank you to all who have come forward to share stories about Eddie and to mourn the loss of such a beautiful person. We are all incredibly grateful for your kindness and generosity.  It means the world to everyone in Eddie's life. Thank you.
