Born in Minneapolis,/ Minnesota to Sgt. Leon and Ora Lee Wallace, Norma Jean (Wallace) Jordan grew up a rambunctious, yet inspired child. She was the youngest child of three siblings. Professor Norma received her undergraduate degree from a prominent HBCU – Florida A&M University (FAMU). It was there that she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc and began her commitment to Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service. She gave “All of her Love to Delta.” Professor Norma received her Masters’ Degree from Fuller Theological Seminary. She worked in the legal field and as a seminary professor for years before opening her own business – Single Parents of Power (SPP). While getting her now thriving business off the ground, Professor Norma continued to pursue her love of singing – recorded several professional songs – and authored a book, “The Ministry of Single Parenting.”
While raising her own children, Professor Norma saw the need to provide support for mothers and families and began her ministry -- Single Parents of Power. For more than 10 years, SPP has provided counseling services to prevent child abuse, reunite families within the court system and restore and heal hundreds of broken homes. While she was passionate about helping all people, she was a fierce advocate for at-risk women and young girls. Professor Norma’s perfect balance of stern and sweet made her a trusted advisor and friend to many in Southern California and the greater Los Angeles community.
While Professor Norma’s accolades and accomplishments were lengthy, her favorite role of all was one of mom and “Grammy.” She was a single mother of four college-educated adult children and a surrogate mother to many.
When she wasn't restoring fractured families, giving dignity to single mothers (and fathers) of all cultures and equipping dozens of marriage and family therapists; you could find her cooking delicious salmon or catching a Lakers game with her two sons (John and Job); shopping or enjoying live music with her daughters (Chloe and Angel); playing in the pool with one of her seven grandchildren (ages 2 thru 18), mastering the piano or listening to and sharing a sermon that touched her soul. Professor Norma had the voice of an angel, a daughter named Angel, and in the city of Angels has left a legacy that will reach for years to come.
While she may no longer be with us, we are asking for your support to help keep her ministry alive. There are more than 30,000 foster youth in LA county and more than 1,000,000 single mothers. There is more work to be done. Please help in any way you can. (Your donation will be tax deductible to Norma Jordan Ministries/Single Parents of Power).
