In July 2021, my husband Don went into the ER with COVID/flu-like symptoms. While there we found out he was septic, had blood clots and an inflamed GI tract. He was admitted and after one week his colon had ruptured. Don was taken into emergency surgery where they performed a total colectomy, which resulted in another week of hospitalization. One week after that he was again admitted, this time for a whole month due to sepsis and in that time he had a stomach ulcer rupture. It was then that Don was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer which had spread to his liver and was making its way to his lungs.

But that's never quite it, is it?

We found out that it was an abnormal and aggressive cancer and he was given 3-6 months to live. Don was able to start chemotherapy two months later and we were seeing great results! Over the summer Don was once again hospitalized and though he made a recovery, the cancer had spread to his lungs and his body stopped responding to the chemo. We were then referred to some experimental treatments. We went to get the treatments set up, but due to more recent emergencies he isn't eligible for those treatments. So every week we go in for blood work to see if today is the day they can give us the green light, and every week that he can't, his cancer gets worse.

People have asked how they can help out so I set this GoFundMe up for exactly that. Even through all the curve balls Don is still fighting and we are thankful for everyday. We are nearing the end of the year and our deductible will reset and the bills will once again start. I know this is a rough time of year for everyone, but between traveling to see doctors and the expenses associated with that and regular, everyday bills, anything that anyone can donate is greatly appreciated.
