The Diary of the Last Bride

Hello everyone! My name is Maddie Main, and I’m the writer and director of The Diary of the Last Bride, my first short film I'm shooting out in LA. I recently moved from Kansas City to LA to pursue my dream of filmmaking, and I’m beyond excited to dive into this new chapter. This film is personal to me—it’s inspired by my own experience with singleness and the feeling that everyone around you is getting married and starting families. It’s about discovering that everyone’s journey is different—and that’s okay!

The Diary of the Last Bride tells the story of Marlo, a woman in her mid-20s, struggling with feelings of invisibility and unrealistic expectations about love. Supported by her older brother, who’s away serving in the military, and his wife, Marlo embarks on a journey of self-discovery, confronting her insecurities and idealized fantasies. It’s a film about embracing your worth and learning to love yourself first.

The Film

The Diary of the Last Bride is a story of vulnerability, self-reflection, and finding your way in a world that often places too much emphasis on romantic love. As Marlo journals through her thoughts and fears, she starts to realize that her path doesn’t have to mirror anyone else’s. Through the support of her family and a journey of self-empowerment, she learns that there’s beauty in forging your own path.

The Crew

We are a group of young women from the Midwest with a shared passion for storytelling. We’ve worked together on countless projects over the years, supporting each other through every stage of our careers. Whether behind the camera or in front of it, we’ve built a creative community where collaboration and passion are at the heart of everything we do.

The Cost

The funds raised here will go toward travel expenses for some crew members who are in Missouri, as well as covering costs for cast, crew, food, rental equipment, and any other expenses for the film. Every bit helps make this dream a reality!
