Hi, Everyone. Most of you probably won't know who I am. Very quickly, I am a friend of The Dewar's. Marilyne has been friends with my other half, Marilou, for many years. Over the years, The Dewar's have become very good friends of ours.
Many of you know that the Dewar's moved to Manitoba (from Red Deer) a few years back where Brent could build his business from their homestead. Brent and Marilyne are proud parents of two young children, Scott (Almost 2 Years Old) & Remi (2 Months Old). The 4 make up the perfect little family, from life on the homestead with chickens and children running around, the Dewar's have their hands full.
Unfortunately, they now have more than full hands. Marilyne was not feeling well and went for a typical check-up with her Doctor's office. They did testing and sent her for further testing. It was quickly discovered that Marilyne has Leukemia.
Leukemia usually involves white blood cells. Your white blood cells are potent infection fighters — they normally grow and divide in an orderly way, as your body needs them. But in people with leukemia, the bone marrow produces an excessive amount of abnormal white blood cells, which don't function properly. Treatment for leukemia can be complex — depending on the type of leukemia and other factors.
Marilyne and Brent would be the last people on this planet to ask for help from friends and family. They are hard-working, take no hand out, kind of people. However, this is a circumstance no one can predict and plan for. Marilyne will be in the Cancer Treatment Centre for quite some time, and while thanks to Canadian health care most will be covered. What's not covered is Brent's time away from work so he can be with his wife, care and attention for the two children, and other medicine or costs that will quickly creep up on the Dewar's.
It's still early in treatment since receiving the diagnosis only this week. I am asking anyone that knows the Dewar's to see if they can dig into their pockets just a little and help send funds their way. It's not a matter of if they will need the funds, it's a matter of certainty. I want to make sure they have nothing to worry about during Marilyne's treatments and want to make sure that Brent can spend as much time looking after his family as possible.
If the Dewar's grant further permission, I will post updates here should anything change.
