Hello, my name is James Phinex, a producing student at Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, and along with Kayla Jessica Serrano, a screenwriter at Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, we are teaming up to co-produce the short film, "The Devil Downstairs." The film is written and directed by Sydney Waltz, a directing student at Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema.
Plot:
After their son kills his girlfriend, Dale and Lisa must decide whether to protect their son from the consequences of his actions or turn him into the police.
This film is inspired by true events and along with making the best film that we can, we also want to address how dating and domestic violence are very real occurrences. We hope that by making an honest depiction of this violence and its aftermath that we are honoring the victims and survivors.

Sydney Waltz is a freelance filmmaker residing in Brooklyn, New York. A native of Ohio, she earned her BFA in Motion Picture Production from Wright State University under the guidance of filmmakers, Steven Bognar and Chinonye Chukwu. Her films have screened across the United States and internationally. Sydney is currently working towards her MFA in Cinema Arts at Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema.
Thomas Heban // Cinematographer

Thomas Heban is a New York-based cinematographer, graphic designer, and animator. He has an MFA in Digital Animation & Interactive Media, an MLA in landscape architecture, and is currently pursuing an MFA in Cinematography. Thomas has been a cinematographer at Verizon Media and as a freelancer for over 7 years. His award-winning animated shorts, Here Be Giants and Danse Macabre (Co-Directed with Jess Cavender) have toured festivals internationally, and his most recent short as a DP, Into The Silver Ether (Directed by Vito A. Rowlands), premiered at the Raindance Film Festival. He is currently developing his first feature.
Andrew Mazzei // Editor
Andrew Mazzei, a native of Guam, now resides in Brooklyn, New York. He earned his BA in Mass Media Communications from the University of Guam where he picked up an interest in editing. Currently, he is pursuing an MFA degree in Post Production from Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema.
