The Devastating Passing of Marina Gorelik

WHY

Just as we thought times couldn't get worse, this year has brought some more devastating news to our family. For those of you who were lucky enough to know her, my mother Marina has suddenly passed away from Covid-19. Just a week shy of her birthday, Marina took her final breath on Monday night at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre, alone in her hospital bed.

After first contracting the virus, we immediately began taking all precautions to help manage her symptoms. With the spread of the virus, we were soon informed that our father, Igor had also tested positive for Covid-19. As days went by, we did everything in our power to ensure that they were both comfortable and stable at home. After assessing the situation, we realized it was best to admit the two of them, where they would receive proper treatment under professional care.

These final weeks were filled with great worry, misery and uncertainty.   As much as we prayed, we soon realized that things were taking a turn for the worse. What we presumed would be just a mild case for our mother, soon became our biggest nightmare.

As our father recovered, Marina spent several weeks on a ventilator and life support. It seemed like there was nothing we could do to help her at this point. Despite the little communication we had, there was still that glimmer of hope that she would make it through. The thought of not being there for my mother during her final moments was something I couldn't fathom. Little did we know that a quick visit to the hospital, would be the last time we would ever see her.

On Sunday, April 2nd, we received the most heart wrenching phone call from the hospital, informing us that there was no hope for recovery. With all odds against us, the chances of her surviving were too low to keep her on life support. Through all the pain and suffering she has endured, we had finally come to terms that my mother was a fighter, but more than anything deserved to be at peace.

These past two months have been extremely hard on the entire family, and we are slowly learning how to navigate without her loving soul by our side.

GOAL

Our goal is to raise enough funds to cover all funeral costs and expenses. Unfortunately, we were left with the news that my mother did not have Life Insurance, which leaves us in this tough situation. With the support from our family and friends, we hope to raise enough funds to peacefully put our mother to rest.

I know we are all struggling during these unprecedented times, so if you cannot make a donation, a simple like & share would be more than appreciated!

If you do have the means to help us during this time, please feel free to make a donation. It would mean the world to our family.

We appreciate all your love, prayers and support for our family during such difficult times.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and please keep yourself and your loved ones safe.
