The Depina Family Needs Help
On Friday afternoon August 21, 2020 on Washington Street at 4 Corners in Dorchester, my friend, who is blind was walking to the laundromat with her 12 year old and 5 year old daughters, stepped into the crosswalk at a red light, and were struck by a vehicle that blew the red light, ran them over, and kept on going.
I’ll repeat, this person RAN A RED LIGHT. This person MOWED DOWN a blind woman and her 2 little girls, and this person DID NOT STOP and left this family to die bleeding in the street.
The 5 year old is one of My daughter’s closest friends, and she was hurt the worst. Thankfully, they all survived, but the littlest one needed surgery. They are all severely traumatized and experiencing an avalanche of physical and emotional pain. And they are going to need help.
This happened in the 4 corners area of Dorchester. This is a busy place. An MBTA bus driver supposedly caught it on dash cam. Nobody else says a word. Not even a blurb on page 3. Nothing.
And the police do nothing. The family has tried contacting them for an update, or to give statements, and they are blowing them off. Not taking their calls. Not returning their calls.
They don’t have time for them. They have more important things than to care about than just another black family left for dead in the street. They don’t matter.
Well I am saying THEY DO MATTER and they deserve justice.
This funding is to help support their ongoing medical bills, physical therapy, and counseling for the girls. The little one suffered a broken leg and Both girls have terrifying nightmares. The funds are also to support the purchase of a new washer/dryer for their apartment as they are too afraid to walk to the laundromat again.
