I'd like to introduce you to the Davis Family - Darrell, Aleah, Lisa, Megan & Kayla. Darrell is a husband, father and sole provider for this wonderful family. No doubt he's earned other titles too; uncle, coach, friend and I don't think Darrell has ever met a stranger! Darrell and Aleah have been married since September 1999 and have three beautiful daughters, Lisa (19), Megan (16) & Kayla (14). Life is very busy in the Davis family; work, school, extra curricular activities and daily, everyday life!
Earlier this year Darrell, 50 years young, was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), aka, Lou Gehrig's Disease, which is a progressive nervous system disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control. This diagnosis has progressed rapidly and severely, surprising his doctors and family. Aleah and the girls are now feeding him, his speech has already been affected, and he is now in a wheelchair. This has all happened in a matter of months.
To accommodate Darrell, their house needs some remodeling, modifications to make it easier for Darrell to get around the house. The master bedroom door will need to be widened, the master bathroom will need to be converted to a handicap bathroom, new flooring throughout the house, doors and ramps, etc.
Aleah and the girls can no longer get Darrell in and out of the car. A converted minivan is also a need do Darrell can continue to go to doctors appointments and be able to attend the girls activities.
Aleah is working with the ALS Association and their team of doctors to make sure Darrell's and the family's needs are met.
As you can imagine this is an extremely difficult situation and asking for help is difficult and humbling. To be upfront and honest, an amount is not known. We have set the goal of $20,000 and we hope to meet this goal. Any donation is greatly appreciated or if you are able to help with volunteering construction services or material please reach out to Brad Sjoberg, [email redacted], [phone redacted] or Wendy Sjoberg.
With much appreciation and gratitude,
Wendy Sjoberg
