The Darrell J Krenz Avenue of Flags Memorial Arch
Donation protected
Please help the McFarland American Legion Post 534 fundraise so we can install a memorial arch at the base of The Darrell J Krenz Avenue of Flags Memorial.
Private First Class Darrell J. Krenz, United States Army, was held as a Prisoner of War after he was captured during the Korean War on 20 July 1950 and was held until his release on 26 August 1953 after the signing of the Armistice. Darrell created the memorial behind McFarland American Legion Post 534 that's dedicated to all veterans for their service and sacrifice. And 106 American flags wave above the hill that the memorial sits on. On the day of his release as a POW, Krenz hugged a flagpole with the American flag. He said a lieutenant came over and told him, "'Son, someday you will have all the flags you want.' That's why I started the memorial. It's my way of giving back."
Darrell was a Past Commander of McFarland American Legion Post 534. He passed away at the age of 90 on September 3, 2021. He is greatly missed by our members.
Please help support us make this dream a reality to honor Darrell!
