The Daniel Fuentes Memorial - East Village Green

As some of you know, in 2020 Eagle Scout Matthew Klingler was working towards his rank of Eagle Scout with part of the requirements being to create a project that benefits the community. The project that he chose was to build a memorial for Our Levittown Hero, Spc. Daniel Fuentes. Danny was the only person from Levittown to be killed in action during the

Iraq War. Daniel died on April 6, 2007 when he was only 19 years old. He enlisted in the army 3 months after graduation from Island Trees High School.

The beautiful project was built by Matthew near the basketball courts/town pool of the East Village Green. If you’ve been around there you know that this memorial has two benches, a

weeping cherry tree, pull bars, and a beautiful large flag of rock with a photo in his honor. Many of the times we pass by we see people enjoying the benches or using the pull-up bars getting in a workout.

Unfortunately in the summer of 2022, a group of 3 girls took rocks and smashed the beautiful glass casing that protects the large American flag. The arm rest from one of the benches has also been broken off alone with a few other things. Due to the damage of his beautiful memorial they have yet to be able to have the official “opening ceremony” for it.

My family is hoping to finally be able to do this next summer and give Matthew the recognition he deserves for all the hard work he has put into this beautiful memorial but first we have to fix it.

We will be restoring & weather proofing all of the wood on the benches, wood on the pull up bars, the wood holding the rock American flag, replacing the glass with an Lexan Polycarbonate sheet and adding silicone weather sealer, we have a company that will be replacing the current photo that is no longer visible with a weather proof granite photo and building a concrete slab to place the photo in so it can not be damaged. We will be adding seasonal flowers around his weeping cheery tree. Any donation helps big or small.
