The Cruelty Men

'The Cruelty Men' is a short film written by writing duo 'Little Endeavours' comprising of Paul Devers and Matt Littleson.

To be directed by Diana Dumitrescu and produced by Ruth Aitken.

Synopsis

The film is set on the Isle of Cumbrae, a small, beautiful island off the coast of Scotland.

Rory and Euan are cousins that spent their childhood Summers together on the island but as adults haven't seen each other in years - until one day, out the blue, Rory rings Euan and tells him to meet him in Millport - the island's only town.

Euan goes only with the intention of bringing Rory home.

He finds the island to be seemingly untouched by time but as he begins to be sucked in by the comfort of nostalgia he encounters various nods to Scottish folklore: unnerving, supernatural beings that seem to be warning him away.

Together the two cousins tour the island and face childhood memories and traumas that had long been buried.

The Team

The team consists of producer Ruth Aitken, who's recently finished a GMAC Little Pictures film, director Diana Dumitrescu, a multidisciplinary filmmaker and photographer, director of photography Yutsil Hoyo Diaz Martinez and sound recordist Orla Murray.

Having all come from different backgrounds, the team are excited to come together in the project.

We are all passionate about filmmaking, and creating a Scottish film based and set in Scotland.

The project is especially close to the heart of writers Matt and Paul, who have been working on the project for some time, and have connections to the island having spent many childhood holidays there and when writing the film discovered they both had a late grandparent buried there.

Most of the crew have some experience in the film industry, but are excited to come together on this passion project and create an exciting narrative piece.

Fundraising

Shooting this kind of thing isn't cheap and so we are hoping to fundraise some support from any friends or family who are in a financial place to help.

Reaching this target will help us pay for accommodation and food for the crew, any kit we need to hire, the editing, colour and sound mixing that goes on post the film being shot.

We will be extremely grateful to anyone that donates and we will be sure to send a copy of the film once it is finished.
