Help Us Bring Our Visionary Western Short Film to Life
Yeehaw people!
This is Letti and Camila- the co-producers of The Crow that Flew West! We are film students in our final year, and are here to ask for your support in bringing our graduate film project to life — a bold and visually striking short film that reimagines the Western genre through a deeply experimental and expressive lens.
About the Film
Logline:
A Bounty Hunter ventures to a faraway town to claim his next prize and grants his victim one final request — a request that becomes his undoing.
Set in a sun-bleached, decaying frontier town, this film follows Crow, a silent gunslinger carrying two guns, a silver lighter, and a white flower pinned to his chest. His target: Rat, a nervous outlaw hiding behind a bartender’s shotgun. What begins as a standard bounty job evolves into a surreal and haunting meditation on guilt, grief, and chance — told with a twist that subverts traditional Western expectations.
What Makes This Western Unique
While rooted in the iconography of the classic Western, our film boldly experiments with tone, style, and narrative:
Production Design:
We’re blending German Expressionism with Neo-Expressionist influences to build a distorted and emotionally heightened world. Expect harsh angles, shadowy silhouettes, and textured environments that reflect the characters’ inner turmoil — unlike anything you’ve seen in a Western before.
Cinematography:
The visual tone will draw inspiration from film stocks like Lomochrome and Aerochrome, applied subtly to evoke a sense of otherworldliness and abject horror. This use of color and texture will help alienate the viewer from the familiar Western landscape, creating a space where dread, beauty, and uncertainty coexist.
This isn’t just a genre film — it’s a psychological journey, expressed through bold visuals and a metaphor-based story.
A Graduate Film with Big Aspirations
As our final university project, this short film is more than a graduation requirement — it’s a culmination of years of learning, collaboration, and creative risk-taking. Every dollar you contribute will go directly toward:
- Authentic and detailed set design
- Costume and prop creation to reflect our unique aesthetic
- High-quality camera and lighting equipment
- Location fees, transportation, and meals for cast and crew
- Post-production, including colour grading and sound design
Why We Need Your Help
We are a small, passionate team of emerging filmmakers. While we are putting in our own time, skills, and resources, producing a film — especially one this ambitious in style and vision — requires more than what we can provide on our own. Your support will help us realize this dream at the highest level of quality.
Whether you can give a little or a lot, every bit helps. And if you can’t donate, please consider sharing our campaign — it truly makes a difference.
