Thank you

The Croft Committee

We're fundraising for essential maintenance to The Croft Outdoor Centre in Gairloch so that many more Castlemilk young people access and enjoy all the benefits of this beautiful place!

Ask anyone in Castlemilk and they'll know a story about The Croft! An ongoing survey with 134 responses so far has many of these stories and shows the positive impact that The Croft has had on so many lives, with comments such as:

“The Croft improved many facets of me, and it may be one of the fundamental reasons I am a teacher now ”

“Coming from a household with parents who worked extremely hard to keep a roof over our heads, holidays/trips was not what we could afford.”

“I came from the care system and any help out there for young people is a bonus hopefully it gets recognised more”

It's hugely important that The Croft continues on as a place for young people to experience the physical, mental, social and educational benefits that The Croft undoubtedly brings.

Read on below to find out more about The Croft and our fundraising efforts.

In October 1968 Glenwood Secondary School bought ‘The Croft’ and after the amalgamation with Grange Secondary School, the newly formed Castlemilk High School took on ownership.

The Croft is managed by us, a voluntary committee, who have ensured that approximately 4000 young people have benefitted from it and aim to ensure that many more will in the future.

Our plan:
- We are working with a Quantity Surveyor to assess what works need done at The Croft and how much this will cost.
- We know that the roof needs done, the source of the damp established and fixed, windows replaced and some interiors updated (see photos).
- We are working with a freelance Community Development Consultant (Paddy McKenna) to carry out the consultation and to secure funding.
- Many funds require you to have 'match' funding i.e. some already fundraised money to contribute toward the project before the funder agrees to give more money.
- To do this, we are starting off with this Go Fund Me with an ambitious aim of £10,000!
