THE COVID-19 LITERACY RELIEF PROJECT

This campaign is part of the 2020 Clinton Global Initiative University COVID-19 Student Crowdfunding Challenge.

Low-income families are experiencing higher rates of learning loss due to the Covid 19 slide. The funding from this campaign will be use to aid the purchase of of over 3000 books to offer a 15 book package per family per child for 200 low income families in Middlesex county NJ.  Donate and follow us on instagram  @C19_Literacy_Relief. 

The Covid-19 slide is defined as the learning loss that occurs due to school and library closures during the coronavirus pandemic.

Research shows that there is little to no age appropriate literacy resources in low income households. This projects seeks to increase the number of learning resources for 200 Low income families across Middlesex county New Jersey.

The goals of this project are :

1. To identify 200 low income families who have children in grades k-8 in Middlesex County.

2. To supply 15 books per grade level of per child per family (picture books, chapter books, fables etc.)

3. To partner with 20 local pantries across middlesex county to identify 10 families each.

While researchers are still learning and understanding the effects of COVID 19 on learning loss, its effects are expected to be greater than those of summer learning loss due to the closures of libraries and other learning programs. We can expect this loss to be compounded by the summer slide the prospect of some campuses remaining closed and remote for the fall.
