The Count is Counting on You

Tax deductible
While a new year brings us so much to celebrate, the start of 2022 has been rough for this adorable vampire, "The Count". After living the hippy life on the road, The Count was taken in by one of our favorite shelter partners and then transferred to Karma Cat + Zen Dog Rescue Society where he met his amazing foster family.

They instantly fell in love with this good-natured, chirpy boy who loves a good fang rub (no, really!). In the days leading up to the new year, they noticed something was off; he was hiding when he used to love to follow them and play, he wasn't interested in his dinner anymore, and he was struggling to use the litter box. We know how dangerous it is for a kitty not to urinate so, in coordination with our medical team, his loving foster family urgently took him to Red Bank Animal Hospital for treatment.

The veterinarians took some x-rays and used other diagnostic tools to determine that The Count had a blocked urinary tract, for which he was immediately treated with pain medication and a catheter to help relieve him. A Urethral Obstruction is life-threatening and is, unfortunately, a relatively common occurrence in cats (especially male cats!). We can't express how grateful we are for his observant foster family and the amazing staff at Red Bank who saw him right away and got him the treatment he desperately needed!

The Count was discharged from the hospital on 12/29 and returned to his loving foster family. Unfortunately, he isn't in the clear yet and his recovery hasn't been an easy one. He is definitely not feeling well and is letting us know in the way that cats do - by hiding and becoming less interested in food. He is understandably feeling swollen and raw in the area of his catheter and, at the moment, we are uncertain that he will fully recover without further medical intervention.

We're all rooting for The Count to make a speedy recovery and doing everything we can to help him along the way! Please keep him in your thoughts and send him love - this wonderful, bright eyed boy truly deserves it.

So far, The Count's medical bills are over $2500! Please consider donating towards his medical expenses.

Your support enables us to give kitties like The Count the top notch medical care they need!
