Meet Juan (age 12) Odie (age 7) and their father, Mr. Wilifred Saenz. Juan and Odie have been my students for 5 years as they progressed through elementary school. They have graced our school with their wonderful character costumes, their projects, and their comical family traits. This year, Odie will enter 2nd grade at Andersen Elementary in Chandler, and Juan will enter Autism Academy in Tempe.
Juan and Odie’s mother, Rocío Corro-Saenz, was the heart of the family, a faithful advocate for her boys, and always smiling as she came to every school function. She suddenly passed away on July 24th of brain cancer. In March, as the COVID crisis began, Rocío began to have symptoms that affected her nose, her senses and nerves. She lost her sense of taste and smell. Her hearing and speech were affected. She lost feeling in her feet and hands. When she was able to see a doctor in April and after undergoing multiple tests, an aggressive brain tumor was discovered. Tragically, it advanced very rapidly.
The needs are huge for this family. I sat down with Mr. Saenz to process the critical and immediate needs they have. Dad was open and shared specific household costs with me as well as the costs for burial. He wishes to take time off his full-time job in order to be there for his boys. He needs a consistently working car and the funds to properly bury Rocio. I have had the privilege of watching this family grow and raise their children well, and we encourage all to do what they can for this family during this time of tragedy.
Immediate needs:
2 months of living expenses which includes enough to pay their rent, electricity, internet (so that the boys can continue distance learning), and insurance - $3000
Cremation and burial - $3000
Travel for family - $1000
Our Chandler community has been helping with food. If one can imagine, there will be ongoing needs for food, clothing, gas and other needs. Please consider this as you give. This family has very little and will be overwhelmed with generosity during this time of grief and loss in their family.

El Señor Saenz fue muy sincero conmigo sobre las necesidades específicas del hogar, así como los costos del entierro. A el le gustaría tomarse un tiempo sin trabajar para ayudar a sus hijos a procesar esto. Necesita un coche confiable y suficiente dinero para el entierro de Rocío. He tenido el privilegio de ver a esta familia crecer y criar a sus hijos con mucho amor, y les animo a que hagan una donación con lo que puedan para ayudar a esta familia durante esta tragedia.
