5/12/21: A message from Jin Hyun:

Before I share any updates, I want to thank every single one of you who has kept our family in prayer during this hard time and supported us through many different ways. This tragic event may have scarred our family but the prayers and encouragement that each one of you have shared helps us to overcome the whole situation and be able to move on.

For updates on both of our health conditions, dad and I are back on our feet and slowly trying to get back to our daily routines. Our main focus is to have a healthy recovery and return to the people who have helped us to stand back up on our feet. Thankfully, if these stitches, staples, and glue does what it was meant to do, we will be able to return to our community and continue on with our daily life.

Update on the attacker
We have given the security footage to the police department which should help them to narrow down the suspect’s description. Since the guy did not wear a facemask, he basically exposed himself during the scene and a couple of witnesses who were in the area at the time were able help identify the suspect’s description

I admit that I am really bad at expressing my gratitude to others with words and action. Honestly, I was speechless when David started the gofundme and so many of you have come together to help our family. I broke down and cried like a little child.
There were also old friends who I have not seen for ages.
There were some people who I have never met or encountered.
The love and generosity that you all have shown reminded my family that love is strong and kind.
I will try my best to reach out to everyone and return our family’s gratitude. For those who have anonymously helped out, I want to thank you as well.
Until we speak again, please stay safe during this time of covid and please wear your masks! :)

Hello, my name is David and I am a close friend of  Jin's otherwise known as Roy. Today, my friend and his father were going about their day at work at the Corner Store in Tacoma, WA when they were mindlessly stabbed multiple times by a customer who was politely asked to put on a mask. I am still wrapping my head around the fact that this could happen to two people who are as nice as them or to anyone for that matter.

Roy is the most generous person I have ever gotten to know. He has given so much to the community, whether it be at the Corner Store, a random stranger, or his friend group. I know for a fact that he would not want me to do this because he always insists on treating me but refuses to ever let me treat him. I hope anyone who has gotten to know Roy or his father, who is looking to help them in any way, can give back this one time to help them get back on their feet.
