Lynn Thomas was born on October 24, 1971, in Rochester, Minnesota. At eleven months old she was taken by her father. They traveled the United States and never stayed in one place long enough to call home. Stability was but a dream for young Lynn, our copper-haired sweetheart. When Lynn turned eleven, her life spiraled downhill and plunged into the abyss of violence, destruction, despair, and near-death experiences. In her book, The Copper Phoenix, Lynn shares her horrific story of rape and abuse as well as her redemption for a better life. She has fought bravely all her life to end the cycle of dysfunction that plagued her family from one generation to the next. Against all odds, Lynn found the courage to heal and rebuild. Like a phoenix, she rose above the hatred and pain to blaze a trail for herself. Lynn broke all ceilings and defied all conventions to become a loving mother to her two sons, a devoted wife to her hard-working husband, and a highly sought-after corporate governance and securities professional in the technology space. In January 2021, Lynn was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. It became the biggest fight of her life and on April 30, 2023, Lynn went home to her final resting place.
It was Lynn's wish to continue advocating for those who are recovering from rape, abuse, incest, and sex trafficking crimes. In Lynn's honor and memory, her family will be starting THE COPPER PHOENIX FOUNDATION, with a mission to advocate for those who are recovering from incest, rape, abuse, and sex trafficking crimes. We need your help with a meaningful contribution to start this nonprofit which will become the family's life's work. Upon forming the 501(c)(3), the foundation's first act will be to make a sizeable donation to RAINN (https://www.rainn.org/ - tax ID 52-1886511).
RAINN'S MISSION
RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation's largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (800.656.HOPE, online.rainn.org y rainn.org/es) in partnership with more than 1,000 local sexual assault service providers across the country and operates the DoD Safe Helpline for the Department of Defense. RAINN also carries out programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
We hope you can join in our effort to end sexual violence and support programs of healing and justice. As you may know, starting a nonprofit takes effort, capital, and resources. We happily accept your acts of kindness with pro bono services and partnerships as well in getting this foundation formed, e.g. legal services, grant writing, website design, and more. Thank you.
