The Continuation of Iyomi's Color Theory Series

Hello! My name is Iyomi Ho Ken, a fashion, fibers, and photography artist. I was born in Orlando, Florida and moved to Chicago to attend the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) where I am currently completing my BFA.
In the past my art/design style has been more focused on "what would sell" instead of what I wanted to actually create. Since attending college and getting into my school's fashion core program- notoriously known for pushing the boundaries in fashion design- I have come to realize that fashion can be my art form, where instead of trying to please and sell to the masses, I am creating a collection based on something deeper, something that has a story or is extremely personal. This realization inspired me to create the Color Theory Series, where I explore the notion of color theory in relation to other topics. My first thought was the primary colors because I felt as though I needed to go back to the basics of art to really grasp and understand the thoughts floating around my mind.
Last year I funded the first part of this series, Moods of the Primaries, through my own savings and realized that I am not at the financial stage in my life where I can do this again (in the time frame that I want this series to be completed) without it placing a financial burden on other pressing needs. Even though I have applied to many grants and funds, I have not yet had any luck in these areas.

There are two more parts in this series to complete, in which I am asking funds for. The second installation of this series will be centered around the secondary colors (purple, orange, & green) to be completed spring 2021, while the third will be focused on the shades (white, black, & brown) completion date: tba.
My ultimate goal with this collection is to change and grow my own personal narrative, where fashion is art. This series was made to make you think and feel different emotions and ideas, while also letting me explore the capacities in which I make art.
