The loss of a “Super Hero” kind of Dad – 4 month old Arvind and 8 year old Olivia, lost their Dad, Alan Conklin.

Alan, a wonderful Dad, loving husband, brother, son and reliable friend, lost his 2 year battle with Esophageal Cancer on July 1, 2018. Alan was a Manufacturing Technician at a job he enjoyed and he was getting ready to marry the woman he fell madly in love with, when in March 2016, just a few months before their planned wedding, he was hit with the shocking news that he was in Stage IV Cancer. Instead of frenzied joyful wedding planning, their world was turned upside down and the wedding had to be moved up, with plans for risky surgery put in its place. All through the ups and downs his lovely wife Rohini stayed by his side and encouraged him to keep a positive attitude. Alan was fighting cancer with everything he had and everything that was available to him, things seemed to be looking up for him after his surgery, chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Finally he was feeling better and started to make plans for the future. He and Rohini wanted to cherish the life they were given and were able to expand their family. Their baby boy, Arvind, was born in February of this year. After they had gotten home from the hospital, once again their lives would change drastically. Alan laid Arvind down for a nap when he suddenly had a seizure and had to be taken to the ER, where it was discovered that his cancer had returned in the form of a brain tumor. His fight increased now that he had his wife, his 8 year old daughter and his 5 day old son. He started Chemo and radiation again but the cancer was spreading quickly.

By June 26th hope was diminished and his family and friends were given the terrible news that his fight was soon to be over, they were no longer going to try to save him. Alan had other plans and he continued to joke with everyone and help ease our suffering. He spent Saturday watching all of his favorite Super Hero movies with his best friends and family.

Rohini and the Conklin family are now managing the challenges of medical expenses, funeral costs and the care of their 4-month old son. Any donation or generosity you can provide this small family would go a very long way.
“I believe there’s a hero in all of us, that keeps us honest, gives us strength, makes us noble, and finally allows us to die with pride. Even though sometimes we have to be steady, and give up the thing we want most. Even our dreams.” – Aunt May
