My name is Jobari "Bari" Coleman-Wilson. I am a 26 years old college graduate. Recently I had the opportunity of a lifetime become available for me, but it was not always like this. Just a month and a half ago I was sleeping on a great friend's couch crying because I lost my car, I had to quit my job and on top of that my cell phone was turned off from immediate calls and texts. I was so stressed and depressed because I saw my life coming to a complete stand still and potentially crumbling.
I have faced many obstacles in my life for example, my mother being physically assaulted in front of me when I was 8 or her being diagnosed with heart failure when I was 22, fate has a funny way of dealing its cards with me. But coming from a single parent house-hold, raised in an tumultuous environment (South Central Los Angeles) as a young Black Male the odds were stacked against me from birth. From surviving to reach 18, graduating high school, to earning a college degree, I broke through the stereotypes and this made me strong in order to deal with various challenges in life! I knew I would get out of this, at the time I did not see it, I did not think there was a way, at times I almost gave up! But God has a great way of using himself through people in order to be blessings to others!
On December 5, 2016 a great college friend of mine Ray Bradley reached out to me and offered me the opportunity of a lifetime that changed my life forever! He asked me one simple question! Do you still want to play football? You see, I played football in high school and in college, and was pretty good at it. I said well duh what type of question is that of course I do! So He laid down the foundation for me. He explained that I would be playing for the Ufersa Petroleiros in Brazil and they would be able to pay for my housing, insurance and gym use. I could not be mad at that!
The downside however is that I will not get paid to play because this is only the teams second year. I also have to pay for my own flight. I was encouraged to market myself, thus this posting. I have been trying to find a job to save some money since I won't have a job while playing football and I will need money for food, personal necessities and day to day living for six months to a year at the least. The Lord knows I have been stressing but pushing to get a job because May (my intended month of departure) was right around the corner.
Well, God had other plans for me! On January 20th 2017 I received a phone call from Ray. He told me after being in a meeting almost all day the team he is currently playing for The Porto Alegre Pumpkins, was looking forward to bringing me aboard and being apart of the team!!
After speaking with the coach he told me the team came to the conclusion that they were excited to bring me on and that there was much work that needed to be done. The team began working on my plane flight, but now instead of me leaving in May, I am leaving in March. I am beyond excited for this new opportunity and the journey it holds for me!
The reason I am sharing this is because with time being cut short I have not had the time to accrue the funds needed for my expenses for the next 6 months to a year that I will be playing football in Brazil and earning value for myself. The money is to help me survive while I am pushing to create a positive and productive culture, grow and build relationships while becoming the best international football player I can be!
Any support that you could offer would be appreciated and considered an investment in my future as a professional football player and productive member of our great county. Thank you for any consideration.
