THE COMBAT RADIO FALL/CHRISTMAS SALVATION PROJECT…

They live in cardboard boxes, under a freeway overpass or, if they're lucky, in some kind of 'vouchered' housing. The families struggle not just to stay together but, also to get enough food to split between them. Most of the children are in some kind of school but...all the kids at school know who the homeless children are and they can make going there rough. Medical problems or Covid, there is no medical insurance for them to fall back on, so they tough it out. Some depend on a food bank (if they can get to one) and the food bank supplies who it can until it runs out.

There are plenty of organizations that deserve your support, or you can get involved with our 'Fall/Winter Salvation Campaign.' Every year, we launch a massive effort to help at Christmas, some times we help shelters out when we can, and in the past we've tried to collect school supplies and even Halloween costumes for the children so they can feel like they count and are part of the community....

This year, we're going to attempt to do all of that, starting with a school supply/food drive (you can donate items for both to Combat Radio) or donate below. In the months of September, October we'll continue to do what we can --and in addition, maybe even get a few Halloween costumes together for the kids (We once did a 'Fall Festival' at social services in Canoga Park a few years back with carnival games and trick or treating) in November and December, this effort will expand, we'll have our Annual Christmas event for social services where we bus in, hundreds of children and their families to Salt Creek Grilled, Valencia for presents, brunch, entertainment and a visit from Santa (who should arrive courtesy of SCV Fire Department) Then throughout the month of December, we'll be taking whatever presents, food and supplies we have (and can raise/pay for) and be hitting every shelter we can. Organizations we usually include Hope Gardens, the shelter for domestic violence, LSS Community Care, Hope Of The Valley, Bridge To Home and more....

As some of you know, this project was thought up by Shawn Dettenmaier when she was in the third grade and has been going strong for 12 years now, thanks to help from people within the community,
