On Monday May 17th Phil Collins woke up like any other day to his amazing wife and two beautiful children Della and Liam. Unlike any other day he had ever experienced before it quickly took a horrific turn into agonizing pain leaving him unable to walk as he waited for paramedics to arrive. It began with immense pain that shot down his legs so crippling that he was unable to walk. The pain intensified and he was rushed to the hospital unsure of what was causing all this chaos.

Upon arrival it was discovered that Phil was experiencing an Aorta Dissection, a very serious condition where blood surges through vessels tearing apart the heart, which had cut off all blood flow to his legs. With a >1% chance of surviving he was rushed into the first or multiple surgeries. Blood flow was first restored to his legs and then the lengthy and difficult process of repairing the heart with multiple heart patches and vein fusions to repair his heart. Each step in this process margin for error almost non-exsistent. Phil's will and determination to live to see his children grow up pulled him through. He pushed through each step defying the odds and moving through with best case scenario results. He eventually was released from the hospital to go home but now physically unable and unsure if he can ever work again.

Phil is a small business owner with a mechanic shop on Southern California. This job requires him to be active, moving, talking, lifting, and so much more. These tasks now seem impossible until after the lengthy healing and rehabilitation process that is ahead of him. As most small business owners know medical insurances for a family of 4 are often so expensive that not everyone can be covered at times. Not being able to work and run the business means either closing the business or hiring someone who can step in and help while you are unable to. Either way results in less and less ability to live as medical expenses pile up on the long road to recovery.
