The Cocoa Memorial Fund (Save Our Other Bunnies).
Donation protected
It all started with Cocoa Bianco. We are hoping to save the rest of his family. It is a five-year story of love and rescue and the amazing efforts of one Miss J. N. (First name removed by request to protect privacy).
In 2017, he (Cocoa) got a bone infection that required three separate surgeries to remove the dead tissue and quarterly tooth trims after that. Outside of his regular care, he went into GI stasis twice and, finally, kidney failure. I’m sorry to say that this GoFundMe is now in memory of Cocoa, who is resting much more peacefully now.
In 2017, he got a bone infection that killed much of the bone tissue on the left side of his jaw. Pictured below are MRIs that helped to show what happened and how much of it (his jaw) was missing.
Good Side:
Bad Side:
Post Recovery:
The emergency vet visit and three surgeries ended with cleaning the dead tissue and keeping most of his jaw, though some of it is held together with a bit of wire. Going forth as the bionic bunny, he's recovered quite well, but he doesn't grind his teeth down on that side as he should.
In 2018, he had to return to the vet because his appetite was dropping, and it was discovered that he had developed tooth spurs on his molars that caused sores on his tongue and mouth. Here's a cute picture to take your mind off that nastiness!
Sweet Little Bunny:
Soon after the surgeries, it was discovered that he needed a friend (rabbits are social creatures), so enter Rapunzel! His new bounded mate.
The Two Together:
They were together for about two more years until Rapunzel died from a heart attack at age 4.
We rescued Lola and adopted her as a new friend for Cocoa; they got along well for about two years until Cocoa died in 2020. Lola was with him at the vet when he passed.

Lola Alone:
In 2020, the pandemic left a lot of orphaned and abandoned rabbits (as well as other pets). Two more were added to the family, all of whom, though we were assured they were healthy, ended up having health issues (mainly kidney and other injuries). We were not cruel enough to turn them away.
First was Theo, Lola's new Hubby, and although he acts like a young active creature, he's eight. He has some ear and kidney issues, but treatments are going well.
Then came Labrys. She is a solo bunny but will play with the others; she is also a giant English Lop with nine-inch ears and a tremendous body to match. She was meant to be a foster, rescued from a bad situation where she was crammed into a cage too small and too close to other aggressive bunnies that would attack her and leave scores of scars on her poor ears. The person we were fostering her for disappeared, never to be seen again (and it turned out her condition would have been horrible with an iron cage outside in the elements). We had no choice but to do our best to heal her and give her a good home. She is much happier now.

Labrys and her Giant Ears:
As of November 20221, Lola and Theo are about Eight years old (Senior bunnies), and Labrys is about Four; while they are doing well, we have concerns for their health which brings us to:
Why are we doing a fundraiser, and why do we need your help?
Over the past five years (since Cocoa's first series of surgeries), J.N. has done all she could to pay for the treatments needed to do everything that needed to be done to give these bunnies extraordinarily full lives. Initially, she has a well-paying and stable job, two strong credit cards, savings, and friends to help.
All this took a turn. Between layoffs, Pandemic issues, rent issues, and four major surgeries (that J.N. required to walk), five years have tapped out all savings, cards and other resources. Her Friends are also done all they can. While she now has an excellent stable job again, her credit debt has made it so that if the bunnies face any emergency, she will not be able to pay and may face being put down simply because we (J.N. and Friends) cannot afford the care.
Our goal is to pay off the two large cards and give her back her safety net (All funds donated go right to paying off the two credit cards used for vet visits, more info to follow).

The simple truth is J.N., and her family need help to Pay as much of this debt as possible to keep the last three bunnies healthy and lead good, solid and long lives. Please give if you can, but if not, please share this with any animal lovers you can. Word of mouth is our most powerful tool.
With all my future gratitude and blessings, Thank You all so much.
