My name is Dr. Bernard L. Dillard, and I am setting up this memorial fund on behalf of our family to honor my sister, Sheremy G. Dillard, who recently passed away.
On August 13, 2026, our family suffered the devastating loss of our beloved sister, Sheremy. She was a bright light in our lives, a passionate educator, and someone who dedicated her life to inspiring others through teaching and coaching.
To honor her profound impact, her deep love for sports, and her unwavering commitment to student success, we are establishing The Coach Sheremy G. Dillard Scholarship Fund.
We want to turn our immense grief into a lasting, positive legacy for the Durham community that she loved so dearly. This fund will directly pave the way for future generations of young leaders to follow in her footsteps.
The Scholarship Criteria
This will be a permanent, annual scholarship awarded to a student who embodies Sheremy’s dedication to education and community.
The specific criteria for the recipient will be:
• A graduating female senior at Hillside High School (Durham, NC).
• Plans to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU).
• Majoring in Physical Education to pursue a lifelong career in coaching and teaching.
Where Your Donations Go
We are establishing a dedicated, recurring scholarship account in direct partnership with the Durham Public Schools (DPS) Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Our campaign is fully set up to receive all contributions immediately. All funds raised through this GoFundMe page will be transferred to the DPS Foundation to launch and sustain this permanent, annual scholarship.
Please note: GoFundMe donations made to this initial campaign are considered personal gifts and are not tax-deductible. Donations will become tax-deductible once the DPS Foundation takes over collecting funds directly.
The foundation will hold these funds in a dedicated account, administering and distributing the scholarship award each year directly to the winning student’s university financial aid office.
Your contributions go strictly toward funding this ongoing educational award and preserving Sheremy's legacy at Hillside High School for years to come.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers, your love, and your support during this difficult time.
With love and gratitude,
The Dillard and Alston Families
