It’s hard to find the words for a loss this unexpected. Christopher Crews Pettit passed away over the weekend at the age of 51. Chris was quintessentially Gen-X: fiercely independent, deeply complicated, and someone who lived entirely on his own terms. Whether it was his encyclopedic knowledge of 20th-century cars, his gifted writing, or his years as a veteran of the Skagit Punk, Hardcore, and Indie scenes, Chris was truly one of a kind.
To his ride-or-die friends: thank you for never giving up on him. Your stories and memories of him have been a huge comfort to our family. As we navigate this second major loss for our family this year—having recently lost our father, Nick—many of you have asked how you can help. We have established this fund to help our family manage the immediate and long-term costs of saying goodbye.
Contributions to this fund will be used for honoring Chris, covering his cremation, obituary, and a gathering to celebrate his life. It will also assist with travel for family members traveling from afar to officiate and attend the service. Any additional proceeds will go directly toward managing Chris’s estate and ensuring our mother, Linda, is supported during this incredibly difficult transition. Any contribution, no matter the size, is a deeply appreciated gift that allows us to focus on grieving and celebrating Chris rather than the immediate financial strain of these logistics. If you aren’t able to donate, please continue to share your favorite memories of him here. Your support brings us comfort.
