LAGUARDIA PERFORMING ARTS CENTER will present a developmental workshop production of THE CHILDREN FROM THE BLUE MOUNTAIN as a part of the 2020 ROUGH DRAFT FESTIVAL

The ROUGH DRAFT FESTIVAL provides innovate and boundary-pushing new artists ,a space to develop and share their WORKS-IN-PROCESS.

This EXCITING NEW MUSICAL intertwines two Afro/Cariibean folkloric characters - Anansi and Jack Mandora- as they contend to capture the power within all stories.  Using traditional FOLK, soca, DANCEHALL, and reggae to explore themes around LOVE, relationship, loss and SACRIFICE.  It journey against a mother’s refusal to allowing her son to follow his dream, while knowing that he does have the power to CHANGE THE WORLD…but at what cost.

The WORKSHOP PRODUCTION is a crucial part of any new musical development.  It proves the creative team the opportunity to explore the words BEYOND THE PAGES.  This workshop will explore some of the CHOREOGRAPHY in the world and the interaction between the TRADITIONAL DRUMS and FOLK RITUALS which are are at the underbelly of The children from the Blue Mountain.  This will be a great way to gauge AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT possibilities as well as the critical reaction towards works full creative potential.  This is a necessary step toward the future success of the work.

Your SUPPORT will help raise additional funds to pay the ACTORS, designers, MUSICIANS, support team. It will ensure that the works like THE CHILDREN FROM THE BLUE MOUNTAIN have a platform to be apart of the NEXT GENERATION of great theatrical works.
