CHEF ADAM JOSEPH STRONG
Raising $100,000 to establish a scholarship in the name of Adam Joseph Strong. Any extra proceeds will be donated to the family to help pay for funeral expenses.
While our hearts are heavy upon the passing of respected and beloved chef Adam Joseph Strong, we would like to turn towards a future realm of hope with a gesture in honor of his living memory.
We are establishing a scholarship in Adam’s name at his alma mater, the Culinary Institute of America. Adam's dedication to his craft, and the purpose of this fund, are aptly summarized in the quote below by George Bernard Shaw:
“This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purpose recognized by yourself as a mighty one; the being thoroughly worn out before you are thrown on the scrap heap; the being a force of Nature instead of a feverish selfish little clod of ailments and grievances complaining that the world will not devote itself to making you happy.
I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live, it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can. I want to be thoroughly used up when I die, for the harder I work, the more I live. Life is no ‘brief candle’ to me. It is a sort of splendid torch which I have got hold of for a moment, and I want to make it burn as brightly as possible before handing it on to the future generations.”
Adam had so much love for Detroit, and the state of Michigan. He loved his hometown like he loved his family, and friends. Like he loved to cook. Although he split his career between New York and Michigan, he was so proud to have grown up in the latter. The scholarship will provide a chance at a brighter future for Michigan students with a passion for food.
