The CHD fight for Baby Beau
Donation protected
Dear friends and family,
As many of you know, Aiden and I have been blessed with this new chapter and journey with baby Beau. However, the last few weeks have felt like a rollercoaster of emotions. Throughout the last few weeks, we were told at our 20-week anatomy scan that Beau has Situs Inversus (meaning his organs are on the opposite side of traditional. For example, Beau’s heart is on the right side of his body, not his left side) and concerns with his heart.
We were referred up to Maternal Fetal Medicine in Colorado Springs, CO, where they did another fetal anatomy scan. We then had a consultation with one of the obstetricians and a perinatal nurse navigator. They explained that from their testing, they believe that Beau has Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome along with Situs Inversus. The obstetrician there could not tell us if surgical intervention was an option due to the complex condition. The obstetrician informed us of our options, which included comfort care and/or termination of pregnancy. The OB did state she was cautiously optimistic. However, the OB did refer us to Colorado Fetal Care Center (CFCC) in Denver, CO. We left there feeling hopeless; we just wanted good news that our baby was going to be okay. We wanted answers. However, we did not give up hope.
When we were at our appointment with CFCC, several tests were done that same day, including another fetal anatomy scan, fetal MRI, fetal echocardiogram, and a consultation with a plan at the end of the day. During the consultation with the cardio team, we were informed Beau does not have HLHS; he has a more complex variant called Double Outlet Right Ventricle with Mitral Atresia, with Situs Inversus. They informed us that surgical intervention is possible. Compared to regular HLHS, baby Beau's aorta is very strong and regular in size; however, he only has his right ventricle doing both the pumping to the lungs and the body. Beau will need a minimum of two open-heart surgeries. They expect him to have a great quality of life and are confident. We then had a consultation with a maternal fetal medicine OB, who stated I would need to relocate to Denver at 34 weeks and would be up there for a minimum of 8 weeks.
Due to the advice of my OB team, I was advised not to work for the remainder of the pregnancy starting April 30, 2025, due to being high risk, placental issues, and Beau’s condition.
We are reaching out to our community to help raise awareness and funds to support Harlie, Aiden, and Baby Beau during this time. These funds will go to:
Daily living expenses
Travel, food, and other essentials while they remain in Denver and the hospital.
Any additional costs related to his treatment and recovery.
