The Chase Duff family

Chase was diagnosed at birth with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome, a rare genetic syndrome that has left him with chronic lung disease. He has been in the PICU since July 10th due to an acute respiratory infection. Chase was intubated for 3 weeks, followed by 2 weeks on a bi-pap mask in hopes he could transition back to a basic oxygen support in order to go home. Unfortunately, his lungs took such a hit from this infection that on August 18th, Chase had to undergo a tracheostomy surgery in order to help him heal and support him for future illnesses. As his condition has been very critical during this entire time, his mom April has been staying with him 24/7 at the hospital and has been unable to work. With the new trachestomy, Chase will need to remain in the hospital for another 3 weeks or so to allow for healing, April and Jesse to be properly trained on how to care for Chase with his new trach and equipment, and also to get the proper supportive equipment and supplies at home. One piece of equipment that is not covered by medical insurance but has been highly recommended for Chase's fragile lungs a medical grade de-humidifier/air purifier that costs $1700 (this is a discounted price). As Chase will require 24/7 care when he returns home, they will need to hire additional nursing staff (which is so hard to find), so April and Jesse will need to ensure they can supplement the nursing care they have.
