The car is crying, the cat is crying, and so am I.

I'll give you the highlights of the series of events that keeps getting me "Oh, my god."

  • Near death experience, layoffs, and two evil landlords 2023-2025
  • New job, new home, new hope! Except, uh oh, new home has a hole in the ceiling, my car's AC went bust, and I'm not feeling too well
  • Local teen drops off kitten near death just before I go into surgery, then kitten has surgery, then wife has surgery
  • Hole in ceiling ridiculously complicated to repair, turns into a red herring for the ceiling in the split level starting to crack
  • Wife is sick, I'm sick, cats are sick, and I don't feel like dying under a cracking ceiling
  • Oh crap my laptop and my phone broke
  • Emergency move at a pretty 32% interest rate
  • Car is unsafe to use as medical transport: shelling out for rentals, but her brakes are starting to openly sob on grocery trip
  • Evil vets, our rehab cat is suffering, lots of arguing over a second surgery he absolutely needs
  • Multiple post-soggy-apartment trips later, we learn it helped reveal a life-shortening, degenerative disease for my wife!
  • Can't process this, the car is melting, her brakes are crying, the cats are crying, I'm crying, we're all crying
  • Wife's laptop decided to feign death a few times as two leaks sprung in the kitchen (new landlords get props though, good folk)
  • I'm combating three rounds of the flu, several invalid bills, calling offices I never new existed before, and having meltdowns every time a phone AI hangs up on me when I ask for a human

That's it, I have to admit it: I'm beat the heck up and I've nothing in savings anymore. All I have to my name is more debt than I'm willing to name, anxious muttering between paychecks, and I'm now an expert on payment plans.

Goals:

Round ONE
  • 300 would go towards the very stressed out cat: on top of coming to us to near death, they botched his neuter, and we need to cover the double confirmation and surgery 2
  • 300 would go towards replenishing emergency funds from the triple flu
  • 300 would go towards the brakes on my rust bucket

Round TWO
  • 600 would help us recover from the savings we used up to get Prince's first emergency care + allow us to restock for them
  • 1200 would go towards paying off all the essential tech we had to replace
  • 2500 would go towards repairing the car AC (compressor kicked the bucket, leak troubleshooting, filter replacement)

LEFTOVERS
  • I am going to be super transparent about where the money would go that doesn't go to the above: broader vaccine/vet updates for all three cats, minor or unexpected car repair needs, medical expenses, debt, supportive services for things like food, repairs, and labor (between us we've got one broken back and a pile of arthritic joints, we need all the help we can get)
  • This may also include spending on the cats for items to help with care and behavior, like the heightened grooming needs for Prince and the expanded shelving/trees/"catification" we may need even post-neuter-part-two to help with exercise and territory

I am determined to own as much of the load as I can. The above is what I can math out that we need to go from "I'm handling it honey" to "oh dear god" in the mudslide that's been about the past 15 months. I'm exploring finding options to auction off a few items of ours, or creating docs to give away at "pay as you can." I wouldn't feel at peace asking for more.

BONUS:
  • If this somehow, somehow at all gains traction enough to hit 11,500, we can take care of the emergency moving loan I sold my first born son for
  • 13,500 gets all three cats done up, our food security back, all of the moving debt and the trickle down gone, a medication debt killed, and maybe, just maybe, ALL of the lights repaired on my car

The bare minimum is Prince's appointments, but overall this is the outline for what takes us out of me counting pennies between sudden 10 dollar purchases and back to counting per-paycheck.
