Support the Carter family, in memory of Miles
Donation protected
We are in deep shock over the untimely death and tragic loss of Miles Carter. Miles—a beloved husband, son, father, brother, colleague, friend, and more—meant everything to Dorothy and their two little girls, Clementine and JoJo, and so many others.
As gutted as we are over Miles’ passing, we are also preparing for the tough path ahead for Dorothy and the girls. We ask for any support that you can provide.
About the Carters
Miles was a proud father, voracious reader, bold philosophizer, and studious man with degrees in both Chemistry and Law. His education took him from his hometown of Salem, Oregon, to the Seattle area, where he had been living since graduating from UW School of Law. Miles leaves behind his wife Dorothy, whom he met in Seattle in 2010, and who had been working as an elementary school teacher. Dorothy has just been recently recognized as an Outstanding Teacher at Hilltop Elementary School for her work as a public school librarian. He also leaves behind his daughters Clementine, a sweet 7 year old who loves red pandas and is in her first year in a dual language program in Spanish and English, and Josephine (or JoJo), a spunky 4 year old who loves to perform and just started Tee-ball. The girls both love Disney and their two dogs, golden retrievers Phoebe and Huckleberry.
What Happened
Miles had been suffering from sporadic seizures since the end of 2020, and a rare event called Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy likely took him from us too soon, on April 6, 2022, at the age of 42. Dorothy is naturally in shock and overwhelmed with grief, and unfortunately at a loss for how she will financially provide for her two little girls in the upcoming weeks, months, and years.
We Ask for Your Help
If you know Dorothy, then you know a hard worker, loyal friend, wonderful mother, selfless soul, and committed teacher—a job that she is passionate about, but which does not financially equip her to dig herself out of the financial hole she finds herself in. Since she is not one to easily ask for help, we (her family) are seeking it on her behalf.
Dorothy and the kids face so very many expenses on the horizon. First, there are the immediate costs associated with Miles’ service and the family’s living expenses as they get through this first tough stretch. As a now single working mother, Dorothy will face an increased need for child care and other support in the years ahead. And, looking further still, there are the kids’ educations to think about. Any help will be appreciated to ease the emotional and financial toll on our loved ones. Thank you for your support from the bottom of our hearts.
