The Cardenas Christmas Miracle
Hi friends and family!
As you may or may not know, I've been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for about three years now and my little, Haidy, is the shit.
She's twelve years old but has more sass in her pinky finger than anyone I know has in their whole body. She knows every TikTok dance, knows all of Ariana Grande's boyfriend's names, and on multiple occasions, I have seen her rap faster than Busta Rhymes - no exaggeration. When I started writing freelance for Snapchat, I called her... for legitimate writing help (I mean who really knows how Snapchat works??).
Anyway, now I'd like to help her and her family out. They've been hit really hard by COVID this year. Both her mom and dad's jobs were impacted, they lost their Grandma - who was very close to their family, and she, her two sisters, two dogs, mom and dad have been quarantined in their two-bedroom apt all year.
I asked Haidy's mom, Denise (an actual saint) to send me the girl's Christmas lists, and they were seriously adorable. I was just going to cover the bunk beds that Bella (7) wants for her 18" dolls, since she very nicely told Santa she wouldn't cry if he forgot, and a few other tear-jerkers that the girls wrote about... but then I learned that all the kids ( 7, 12, and 16-year-olds) have been somehow sharing ONE DATED LAPTOP FOR REMOTE SCHOOL SINCE MARCH.
So I thought, maybe my friends and family, who have been tethered to their laptops in so many ways this past year, would want to help me buy these amazing kids the luxury of personal space (and all the other doors that a laptop opens... but mostly sibling-freedom).
I've never set up a go-fund-me, but this seems like the year and the cause to do so.
Haidy and her family hold a very special place in my heart... and it would mean so much to me to be able to brag about all my connections at the north pole.
