Cara Calitre Memorial Fund

Dear Family and Friends,

We hope you and your families are staying healthy and positive during these unprecedented times.

From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank you for your support and well wishes. It has been a difficult year with the loss of our beautiful daughter, Cara Marie Calitre, who unexpectedly passed in a car accident on January 11, 2020.

As most of you know Cara was a patient, strong, talented, and adventurous young adult, who loved life. Cara’s sense of humor, kind spirit, and eagerness to help others, allowed her to touch so many lives, even at her young age.

Cara’s passions included competing in sports, spending time at the beach and in the mountains, and being outside in nature. Cara loved playing soccer for Boulder High School Varsity and Broomfield Club teams. Skiing was a passion she shared with her family and one that became a fixture in Cara’s life. Cara started backcountry skiing with her best friend and was about to start competing in the Big Mountain IFSA Junior Freeride Tour with her dad as her coach. Cara was planning to study atmospheric science with an emphasis on avalanche science in college.

Most of all Cara loved spending time with her family, dogs and friends. Cara spent a lot of time walking her dogs (Laddy, Baya, Boca & Baker) at Coot Lake, kicking the soccer ball around with friends, watching sports (especially the NY Yankees, NY Giants and Premier League Soccer) and Netflix with her mom, dad and brother, and doing anything outdoors.

We plan to carry on the spirit of Cara and know many of you asked to be a part of keeping her memory alive as well. We have decided to start with the establishment of the Cara Calitre Memorial Fund, with a goal of $15,000, as a way to memorialize and honor our wonderful daughter.

Cara will be missed not only by her family, but by everyone whose life she touched. To honor Cara's memory, we are setting this fund for three memorials: a memorial bench at Coot Lake in Boulder where Cara visited daily, a memorial tree planted in town, possibly at Boulder High School with a plaque, and a memorial in Vail where she loved to ski. All of these places were dear to Cara.

Our goal is to use any money in excess toward an annual fundraiser where we can get together to continue to love and share in her exemplary spirit, kindness, and generosity to all. Clearly given this current pandemic, planning larger group gatherings is not appropriate.

We will update everyone in 2021 of future plans to have her memory carry on for all.

Thank you for your generous show of love and support.

With love,
Phil, Carolyn & Philip Calitre
