it does not come easy to ask for help, and it is even scarier taking to social media to ask our friends and family for help. A year ago we where displaced from our home, after leaving a toxic living situation. our family spent three months homeless staying with family. In October we moved from Plymouth to the only apartment we could find in New Bedford at the peek of the housing bubble. In November, shortly after moving, my husband was fired from his job after we had previously spent the first two years of our youngest sons life taking care of a sick baby. We immediately had to pull our youngest from daycare and my husband immediately began an overnight position. At this time we began navigating a diagnosis for Silus who was officially diagnosed in March with ASD. Working overnight quickly became the wrong choice for our family well Matt worked and came home to care for our kids with no sleep. During this time my husband has been the primary caregiver for Silus and our oldest, Martin. Leaving us living off one income. Unfortunately we are now in a position where we are being evicted from our apartment and are facing the reality of the affordable housing crisis. Our family’s next step is to move into a family shelter well we get back on our feet. Silus is finally in a center and Martin is going back to school so we will be able to have a two person income again. We are doing everything we can to keep our kids out of a shelter with fear of a huge regression with Silus and social/emotional concerns with Martin.
during this time we are reaching out to our family, friends, and community for any help towards housing costs or bills so we can meet our basic needs. We are appreciative of any help during this time, well we navigate what is next for our family.
with love,
