For us, Bhangra is more than just dance, it’s a celebration of who we are, where we come from, and the traditions that shape us. Growing up, many of us have felt the pull between adapting to new spaces and holding onto our roots. On the Cal Bhangra team, we’ve found a way to do both: to thrive as students, leaders, and friends while staying grounded in the rich heritage of Punjab.
Bhangra is a centuries old Punjabi folk dance that symbolizes energy, resilience, and joy. When we dance, we don’t just perform moves, we tell the story of our ancestors, our families, and our community. As students growing up far from home, being part of this team reminds us of the values we grew up with: hard work, unity, and pride in our culture. Together, we are learning to carry those values forward for future generations.
But keeping this tradition alive on a college campus is not easy. Competitions, travel, uniforms, props, and team equipment all require funding, and these costs quickly add up. As our team grows, so does the financial need to make sure every member has the chance to participate fully, without money being a barrier to culture.
This is where you come in. By donating, you are not just supporting a student team , you are helping preserve a piece of Punjabi culture. You are ensuring that students at Cal, and the larger community we perform for, can continue to experience the power of Bhangra. With your support, we can buy new equipment, cover competition budgets, and build the resources needed to keep this team strong for years to come.
Every dollar helps us not just dance, but keep our roots alive. Thank you for standing with us and helping Cal Bhangra carry forward the spirit, pride, and joy of Punjabi culture.
