It was always part of our dream to live in the spectacular views and World Heritage-listed wilderness that Yengo National Park provides. We purchased our property back in 1997 and we set about making it a home for the future by converting the machinery shed into a living space.
Surrounded by incredible wildlife and Aboriginal cultural heritage sites it truly was idyllic. Unfortunately, as is the story for so many now, our property was decimated by bush fires just a few weeks ago. Whilst we are understand we are incredibly lucky to still have our family home in Sydney, we are also seeking help to rebuild our property here. Not for ourselves but to facilitate a better future for the community. It’s our intention to create a place that serves the community its surrounded by to create resources that will serve the RFS and CFA in any future fire flighting that’s needed. We would like to encourage the rare and special wildlife (including Spotted Quoll and Koalas) back to the site too. Losing 800 million animals is a number I can’t even fathom. It’s a privilege to be part of this regeneration. I would like to thank you in advance for reading and for being part of recreating an area that deserves to be regenerated.
IMMEDIATELY NEEDED - Animal Feed - $2000
We have the only permament water source that deep into Yengo National Park and we know that our Native animals will be looking for water but there's no feed anywhere so we need your help to purchase animal feed which is desperately needed for hungry animals because there's no feed around.
SHORT TERM GOALS - Basic Amenities - $10,000
We need these basic things to get the property functional again so we're looking to raise $10,000 for;
1. Replace tools and equipment lost in the fire so work can start on the clean up.
2. Basic non flushing toilet structure with roof, guttering and 1000 litre water tank so so working parties can get in there and clear the dangerous trees and fallen timber so works can start on repairing the landscape and rebuilding the house.
3. A shipping container to store all of the equipment we’ll need to rebuild.
Once we've achieved these goals we'll start focusing on the long term goals which are;
LONG TERM GOALS
1. Reconstruct contour erosion containment structures to minimise losses of top soil in the event of heavy rainfall.
2. Erect a semi permanent structure with guttering so we can start collection potable water for working parties.
3. Construct water retention systems similar to what has been deployed by the Mulloon Institute to slow water flow off the property. The 2007 storms absolutely decimated the landscape, made easier by our forefathers poor farming practices we will construct hydrologic retention systems to slow water flow and retain as much as we can to drought proof the land and aid in firefighting efforts by RFS.
4. Create better access for RFS and National Parks to water sources for firefighting.
5. Demolish structures damaged by fire.
6. Rebuild the house and amenities.
