Help get our brand-new theatre company up on its feet!

Hello :) The Burik Ensemble is an entirely student-run theatre group that was created just four months ago by ten determined college kids and a dream.

Since that time, the company has produced one black-box musical (a great success!) and is looking forward to producing its next show, a play called “Stupid F*cking Bird,” Aaron Posner’s jaunty adaptation of Chekhov’s “The Seagull.” When we read the script this past fall, it touched us as artists and brought us closer together. We knew it had to be our next show!

We also have an original musical making its debut on campus this fall semester, if all goes to plan!

So this is where you come in. Theatre is expensive to produce, even when it’s put together on a shoestring budget. For example, it costs $1,200 just to obtain the scripts and secure the rights to perform and record the next play. For this reason, we are starting with the ambitious fundraising goal of $3,500, which will cover these fees as well as some of the “consumables” on the technical side for both shows, such as paint, lumber, and the like.

We are incredibly grateful to Five Towns College, the small arts college we all attend here on Long Island, NY, for its support of our fledgling company. Our Performing Arts Department and its faculty and staff have supported our dream from day one, by providing us with many resources such as rehearsal and performance spaces, access to the college’s costumes and props, and much more. (Fun fact! We work with the college to ensure that students at Five Towns are able to participate in our student-run productions while also working on the faculty-directed mainstage shows.)

As a brand-new company, running on dining hall coffee and Tropical Smoothie Café, we kindly ask you to help us bring our artistic dreams to fruition. Art keeps us sane and comforts the uncomfortable. Any amount that you are willing and able to donate will be greatly appreciated.
