Hey, this is Hal-
A little background. Pat Gent and I have been good friends since high school. When he first came to Seattle he stayed with me for about half a year. Since then he's been Bunny's longtime roommate and dear friend, beginning with them meeting while working at the Green Tortoise Hostel and getting an apartment together by Seattle Center. After many years (and cats) together they moved over to White Center for a few years. About 2 1/2 years ago they lost their lease and had to move. At that time Bunny approached me with the proposal that she and Pat could afford to buy a house if they left the city. But not "on paper". They needed a different credit history and a downpayment. She asked me if I'd be willing to help out and I agreed. I knew that Bunny had been subsidizing Pat's rent and utilities for years as he is living on about $950 disability every month. She found an awesome house in Port Orchard, which I now refer to as "Casa Creamsicle" due to Bunny's distinctive taste in paint colours, and the deal was made. I put up the downpayment and got a loan in my name from the bank. Bunny made the payments and she never missed one.
About a week ago Bunny succumbed to her long fight with cancer. She went with all the self-assurance and style that characterized the rest of her life. But now Pat's in a bit of a bad spot. The particulars are that the monthly payment was just under $1,500. About $500 of that went to me to pay back the 60k I took from my Airbnb income savings with the remaining $1,000 going to the bank to pay the mortgage. I've suspended the part that goes to me indefinitely and there's enough left in the account that I set up when the house was purchased in October of 2019 to make three more mortgage payments. In addition there will soon be bills piling up for water, sewer, garbage, gas, internet, and electricity. As if that weren't enough, the house needs a new roof which will cost anywhere from $8,000-$15,000.
With the incredibly generous promises of help from all of Bunny's dear friends we will be getting the house cleaned up and ready for roommates within the next few months which will, hopefully, cover the bills and maybe even allow a little bit of savings to go towards maintenance. But that's down the road between 3 and 6 months and the bills aren't waiting. Bunny's sincere wish was to try and make sure Pat was taken care of after she was gone. If you can give anything to help out it will keep a wonderful guy warm and dry while he recovers from the passing of his dear friend.
Thank you so much for your attention and participation.
