Helping the Buckler Family: Leah’s cancer has returned
Donation protected
We are heartbroken to be here again reopening a Go Fund Me for the Buckler Family . Sadly Leah’s cancer has returned, and this terrible vicious disease has left them with an inevitable and tragic future. We are hoping through this Go Fund me, to offer support to the Buckler family while they spend as much time together as possible with what time Leah has left, and hopefully fulfill some of her bucket list goals.
It’s been just over 2 1/2 years since Leah began her battle with cancer. It was fall of 2022 while our celebrating Leah’s 11th birthday when the Buckler’s received the terrible phone call that would shake their family.
At just 13 years old Leah has overcome so much in her young life, from chemo and rotationplasty surgery on her leg. To the aftermath of trying to deal with the changes that come post chemo and amputation as she reacclimatized to her new life and tried to get back to being a kid.
Last September doctors advised that they spotted something on Leah’s lungs from a follow up xray. The spots were removed with a very painful surgery and were determined as they had feared to be osteosarcoma.
The Buckler’s once again hoped that they were in the clear, that this was just something that had taken hold during chemo and that Leah would hopefully continue on cancer free, but unfortunately cancer doesn’t fight fair. Another Xray last month found another spot on her other leg, a following bone scan found more in her ribs and pelvis; and after experiencing neck pain last week yet another scan this week has revealed more on her vertebrae. There is fear that this will cause paralysis so Leah is limited on how much movement and activity she can do right now, which for anyone who knows how busy Leah likes to be, this has been difficult for her being house bound.
Doctors are hopeful that radiation and immunotherapy will help shrink the current spots to hopefully give Leah some comfort and hopefully extend her time with us.
I have spoken with Melissa a few times now as initially she didn’t feel right about another Go Fund Me as they feel so indebted to all the generosity and support received during Leahs chemo treatment. The money previously raised was a huge help to them while being off work at times during her chemo and allowed them to buy her a special prosthetic to give her the best range of motion possible. However we have had to so many people who have been asking how they can help, as we all hoped this day would never come, and so the Buckler’s have finally agreed to letting me set this back up. The realization that the cancer has spread so quickly to so many places makes us want to offer Leah as much as we can in the next few months. If the radiation is successful then perhaps the Buckler’s can make a family trip to a beach, or if they are home bound then crafts, plants and things for Leah to spoil her fur babies with are some of the ideas she has on her Bucket List.
If you are in the financial position to help donate even a couple of dollars would be appreciated, and if not no problem sending thoughts and prayers to the Buckler family are also welcomed ways to help. We ask that everyone understand that if they reach out to the Buckler’s and they do not get a reply, they do appreciate your words of support, but are feeling very emotionally drained with all of this and therefore they may not get back to you. This has been more heartache than any child, parent or sibling should have to experience and is a lot for them to carry on through. So please understand the delay or lack of response as they try to spend the most time they can in being present together as a family.
