The Bryan Stouffer Family

Donation protected
My name is Elizabeth (Liz) Good Alves and I have set up a GoFundMe for Bryan Stouffer and Family. I am a fellow alumni (BSHS Class of '97), neighbor, and friend of Bryan and his family.

Bryan is a two-time survivor of Esthesioneuroblastoma (ENB), a rare type of cancer that originates in the tissue lining the nasal cavity. He was first diagnosed with the cancer in 2012 and it returned again nine years later in 2021. Bryan required brain surgery to remove cancerous tumors both times and then underwent radiation and chemotherapy treatments at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Bryan's brain started swelling in 2023 and 2024, requiring further hospitalizations at Johns Hopkins and treatments of Avastin, a medication IV infusion therapy, to help reduce and control the swelling. Despite medication therapy treatments from the past two years, Bryan's brain swelling worsened recently, causing him to be hospitalized once again at Johns Hopkins Hospital on Saturday, September 6, 2025. Bryan is expected to have his 3rd brain surgery to remove the air/gas build-up on his brain on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Bryan is a survivor. He has used his steadfast strength to work to support his family all throughout his battle with ENB cancer until he was laid off from work by his company in May 2024. Due to his health issues and the need for medical coverage, Bryan and his family immediately started making COBRA payments of $2300/month. A severance package from his employer assisted the family with some living expenses for three months until the end of August 2024. Unemployment lasted until October 2024. After that, the family lived on their savings and investments while Bryan looked for full-time employment in his field. In April 2025, Bryan and his family had to make the very difficult decision of stopping COBRA coverage after exhausting all personal savings and funds. Despite his health, Bryan started working a part-time job that provided medical insurance as a benefit because the family could no longer afford to pay out of pocket for COBRA.

I am asking for help for Bryan, his four sons, and his wife. The funds would be used for medical expenses, travel expenses to/from Johns Hopkins, and household/living expenses such as groceries and utility bills to make sure the family is taken care of during Bryan's hospitalization and recovery. Bryan's doctors are hopeful that his 3rd brain surgery will be his last one and permanently fix the brain swelling. Let's pray that the surgery works so Bryan can fully recover with an improved quality of life. Despite all of his health challenges, Bryan and his family have remained exceptionally positive and optimistic. Their family motto, written by Oscar Wilde, is, "When it rains, look for rainbows. When it's dark, look for stars."
